15 Creative Business Card Design Ideas

Before you use that business card design template and print everything out, try to think of how many people have exactly the same looking card. Would you not want to stand out? Gone are the days when your business card is simply a printed out version of your contacts. There are so many possibilities now, these cool ideas would inspire you to get your creative juices out!

  1. Have an element that shows your profession or what service you provide in your card - If you are a hairdresser, have scissors, comb or a blow dryer on your card. It can even turn into a head with the upper portion of the card turned up to look like punk styled hair.
  2. Your card can be transformed into something else - Make it fun by converting it into a car, a small house or anything that represents what you do.
  3. Have movable parts or pop-ups - Think of children’s fairytale books to get the idea. Perhaps your phone number can be shown when you pull it from a picture of a telephone. Or you can make your brand’s name wiggle by tugging at one end.
  4. Play with the back and front sides – Most people use plain designs for the back when they could coordinate both front and back sides to come up with a cool concept. The front part could be a question while the back part could be an answer. Think of sets or couple ideas like spoon picture in front and fork picture on the other.
  5. Highlight selected parts - Emboss, use foil, pop-out or cut-out on your logo.
  6. Choose a different material other than stiff paper - From plastics, to rubber to fabric, there are just so many materials that can replace that good old paper.
  7. Personalize your card - Add your signature, your picture, your dog’s picture and so on. Make the design all about you and it will surely be unique.
  8. Choose unexpected shapes from ordinary objects – From a razor, to a toothbrush to a broom. People would be amused into how you can turn a mundane object into something cool.
  9. Paper cards can be torn, peeled off etc - If these were the case, why not play on it. If you can tear-up your contacts into two parts, then whoever you give it to, can give it to someone else. Now, they didn’t even know you had them do the networking for you.
  10. Burn, sew, damage or distort your card if necessary - We always try to keep our design neat and clean which turns out to be boring in the long run, try damaging the card for a change and see how it looks like.
  11. Your card does not have to be always flat – You can add 3D designs depending on your brand name. I saw once a company named peel and they added a pop-out of an orange peel on one side of it. It was really awesome.
  12. Add holes on your card – It would be cute if you can fit in your five fingers on the card and hold it as you would a watercolour palette. Think of fist rings and so on for unconventional shapes.
  13. Make it unexpectedly simple but with a twist - A simple razor blade with a shiny bling on one end looks totally amazing. A plain white card with a series of stitch from a sewing machine, shows that you work in fashion.
  14. Add curves – Defy from squarish straight shapes, add curves on one end and it will be totally unique.
  15. Imagine how you would hand your card to a potential client and design it based on that - For example, print your fingers on the card so that when you hand it to someone, it will look like it is transparent. When you hand the card, the picture on it and your fingers should match.

Business card design is a fun way of getting you noticed. If in a small card you can display ingenuity and your passion for your job, you will surely get hired or seal the deal.
